Summer Film Camp Is Back!

2022 Summer Film Camp with XQL Media at Windsor High School

2022 Summer Schedule (each week-long session is $25/student*):

6/20-6/24: High School Bootcamp

6/27-7/1: Lifelong Learners! adults, ages 55+ encouraged

Middle School Bootcamp with XQL Media ($25/student)

(LIMITED TO 9 STUDENTS)

Students work in crews of three, and the classes are divided into pre-production (screenwriting), production (directing, camera use, and lighting), and post-production. Students will learn the basics of shooting a 1-2 minute commercial video. They will have the opportunity to learn all of the professional, modern practices of production and post-production editing using Adobe Premiere. Youth will become familiar with using a Canon 7d camera. They will learn blocking and industry-standard techniques for directing an actor, interviewing for a commercial video, and practice problem-solving skills. The class will be comprised of 5 modules covering 5 days of class meeting dates from 9AM-noon. The modules are as follows:

Monday – Developing ideas, themes, and a short one-minute commercial script, revising the script, storyboarding, interview techniques, developing a shot list.
Tuesday – Camera Basics, lighting, blocking, and shooting b-roll.
Wednesday – Shooting interviews working with the subjects on the day of the shoot.
Thursday – Editing in Adobe Premiere Part 1.
Friday – Editing in Adobe Premiere Part 2.

High School Bootcamp with XQL Media ($25/student)

(LIMITED TO 9 STUDENTS)

Lifelong Learners Bootcamp with XQL Media (adults, aged 55+ encouraged) ($25/student)

(LIMITED TO 6 STUDENTS)

This class is for adults who would like to learn the basics of making a commercial video. The class is suited for those who have little or no experience. We will learn the fundamental aspects of what goes into making a video.

Monday – Camera language: using color and sound, developing ideas, themes, and a short commercial script, revising the script, storyboarding, interview techniques, developing a shot list and mood board with Malinalli López.
Tuesday – Using the storyboard for intermediate camera techniques and practice lighting and shooting B-roll with Malinalli López and Alejandro Torres.
Wednesday – Shooting interviews utilizing director and working together a crew supervised by Malinalli López, and Alejandro Torres.
Thursday – Editing with intermediate techniques including adding titles, subtitling, and color grading in Adobe Premiere Part 1.
Friday – Editing in Adobe Premiere Part 2  adding music and mixing sound.

Each summer, students from Northern Sonoma County are eligible to participate in Summer Film Camps, skills-based workshops with professional filmmakers designed to teach them the basics of filmmaking and visual storytelling. Instructors have included the late Pixar animator Adam Burke, director Paul Anderson, and XQL Media’s Mallinali López.
